Case Study: The world's largest broadcasting corporation
This client employs in excess of 23,000 employees. Their mission is to enrich people's lives with programs that inform, educate and entertain. It is a public service broadcaster, established by a Royal Charter and funded by the license fee that is paid by UK households.
Challege: Work with a Variety of the Client's Vendor Parnters
The client outsources its IT operations to Siemens, which manage some 160 systems on its behalf. Payroll (along with all Finance and Administration) is outsourced to Steria and the HR support business processes to Capita.
With such a mix of organizations needing to work together, a dedicated team consisting of members from each organization worked in partnership with Siemens taking ultimate responsibility for delivery.
Working closely with Siemens, SBC Systems dealt directly with the client's HR and Pensions departments to define requirements and acceptance criteria. Once agreed, SBC designed and implemented the system and worked directly with Siemens to deploy and operate the system.
The top requirements were to:
- Provide a leading flexible benefits program for all employees located across the globe.
- Prioritize benefits around employee salary sacrifice to maximize Employer National Insurance savings.
- Create a fully integrated employee self-service website branded to client standards with seamless navigation between the solution and the client's own intranet.
- Comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA).
Solution:
The system went live in February 2008 in conjunction with the launch of the client's benefit program. Employees were given online access to the flexible benefits scheme and pension membership. Implementation followed the agreed plan and SBC continues to work in partnership to further develop and enhance the employee benefit package using.
The key acceptance criteria was met by the system providing:
- An employee self-service website to allow selection of the myChoices program for salary sacrifice benefits such as Holiday, Bikes, Childcare and Health screens.
- The ability to sign onto the career average pension scheme.
- A secure daily interface between SAP and SBC's software and a monthly payroll feed sent from our system to SAP.
At the end of the implementation, the client had these kind words to say: "Even with squeezed delivery deadlines, SBC achieved delivery on the required dates through dedication and commitment to success."
